Competition Format

NYMCL organizes league cricket across four competitive tiers: Premier Division, Division One, Division Two, and Division Three. Each division operates on a round-robin format during the regular season, with playoffs determining the champion in the top divisions. The league also hosts cup competitions and end-of-season knockout tournaments.

Matches are played under NYMCL rules, which align with standard limited-overs cricket regulations adapted for local conditions. The league maintains a promotion and relegation system across all four tiers, ensuring competitive balance and meaningful stakes for every club throughout the season.

Match Day Information

League matches are typically held on Saturdays and Sundays at designated grounds across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Long Island, and surrounding areas. Start times, ground assignments, and any schedule changes are communicated through official league channels.

All participating clubs are responsible for ensuring their players are registered, their grounds meet league standards, and their match-day operations comply with NYMCL policies. Umpires are assigned by the league for all Premier Division and Division One fixtures.

Rules & Policies

NYMCL competitions are governed by a comprehensive set of rules designed to ensure fair, safe, and competitive cricket.

Playing Conditions

All league matches are played under NYMCL-approved playing conditions, which cover overs per innings, powerplay rules, fielding restrictions, and result determination methods including the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system for weather-affected matches.

Player Registration

Every player must be registered with the league before participating in any official match. Registration ensures eligibility verification, maintains accurate records, and provides coverage under the league's insurance and liability framework.

Code of Conduct

NYMCL enforces a strict code of conduct covering player behavior, team discipline, and match-day standards. Violations are reviewed by the league's disciplinary committee, with sanctions ranging from warnings to suspensions and fines.

Ground Standards

Host clubs must ensure their grounds meet minimum standards for pitch preparation, boundary dimensions, and player facilities. The league conducts periodic ground inspections and provides guidance on maintenance and improvement.

Umpiring

League-appointed umpires officiate Premier Division and Division One matches. Lower divisions use club-nominated umpires who must meet basic certification requirements. The league offers umpire training and development programs.

Points System

Wins earn 4 points, ties earn 2 points, and no-results earn 1 point each. Bonus points may be awarded based on performance thresholds. Net run rate serves as the primary tiebreaker for teams level on points.
